Florian Böller is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Graduiertenkolleg “Authority & Trust” (GKAT) of the Heidelberg Center for American Studies. Florian Böller’s research interests include US foreign policy, transatlantic relations, and parliamentary control of security policy. In his GKAT project, he investigates what role trust plays during crises of US authority within the transatlantic security community.

Florian Böller studied Political Science, History and Economics at the universities of Heidelberg and Copenhagen. In 2014, he earned his Ph.D. in political science at the University of Kaiserslautern with a thesis on the democratic control of US foreign policy after the Cold War. In 2017, Florian Böller was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Harvard University’s Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies. He is also involved in an international project comparing the parliamentary control of security policies (“Deploymentvotewatch.eu”).

His publications include “Weltmacht im Wandel: Die USA in der Ära Obama” (Trier 2012, edited with J. Wilzewski), “Selbstbehauptung versus Unterordnung: Der US-Kongress und die demokratische Kontrolle der militärischen Interventionspolitik nach dem Ende des Ost-West-Konflikts” (Nomos, 2014) as well as articles in Democracy & Security, Contemporary Security Policy, Zeitschrift für Parlamentsfragen, Sicherheit + Frieden, and Zeitschrift für Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik.
