Program
The Spring Academy is a one-week conference which takes place from Monday to Friday at the HCA’s Curt and Heidemarie Engelhorn Palais, Hauptstr. 120, 69117 Heidelberg. The historic building presents ideal conditions for the conference. It not just offers well-equipped conference rooms, but is also located in the center of Heidelberg’s Old Town, on the main shopping street, and within short walking distance to restaurant, bars and Heidelberg’s main tourist attractions.
During the conference week twenty participants present their Ph.D. projects:
- The projects are thematically arranged into ten panels according to the field of study and academic discipline. Presentations are scheduled for each day.
- Participants are requested to prepare a 20-minute presentation, which will be followed by 40 minutes of discussion.
- In addition, there will be several workshops held by experts from different fields of American Studies as well as a panel discussion at the end of the conference.
- A detailed program of the conference will be sent to the participants in early March.
As the conference starts early on Monday morning and there will be a conference dinner on Friday evening, we suggest that participants arrive in Heidelberg on Sunday and depart on Saturday.
Generally, travel costs are not covered by the HCA. We therefore ask participants to make their own travel arrangements. There is an exception to this for participants registered and residing in developing and soft currency countries. They can apply for the Spring Academy Travel Fund, which was established in 2010. From 2010 through 2014, the Spring Academy Travel Fund was graciously supported by HCA benefactor Herbert A. Jung.
