Geopolitics in the Age of Trump Beggar Thy Neighbour? The Impact of America First on Canadian Politics and US Alliances

  • Tuesday, 3. June 2025, 18:15
  • HCA Atrium
    • Daniel Béland, McGill University

Canada is an unexpected – yet recurring – target of US President Donald Trump’s foreign policy maneuvers. Escalating trade disputes, accusations regarding border security, and even the idea of integrating Canada into the US have reshaped US-Canadian relations profoundly. Daniel Béland (McGill University, Montreal) is currently Humboldt Visiting Fellow at Heidelberg University’s Institute of Political Science (IPW) and will discuss Trump’s impact on Canadian politics, in particular in view of the upcoming elections. In conversation with Florian Böller (HCA), Prof. Belánd will share his insights on the consequences of “America First” for US allies in North America and Europe.
